About Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus, MI
The Detroit Metropolitan Airport originally began in 1930 as Wayne County Airport. Today the Detroit Metropolitan Airport operates 6 runways. In 2001 the Edward McNamara World Terminal opened, with 122 gates and a length of one mile, making it the longest passenger terminal in the country. The ExpressTram transports passengers throughout the World Terminal. Detroit Metropolitan Airport is a major Delta Airlines hub, with gates at McNamara World Terminal.
A new North Terminal opened at Detroit Metropolitan in 2008, which houses most non-Delta traffic. The two DTW terminals are connected with airport shuttle buses. Transatlantic service is provided by Alia Royal Jordanian Airlines to Amman, Lufthansa to Frankfurt, and Air France to Paris.
Interstate highway I-94 and Eureka Road connect DTW Airport in Romulus with downtown Detroit, 20 miles northeast. Interstate I-275 connects DTW with Livonia to the north. Public Transportation and Airport Transportation services connects Detroit Metro Airport with Windsor, Ontario, downtown Detroit, and throughout southern Michigan.
